Between 2015 and 2019, eight readers and writers met to discuss the translated work of Karl Ove Knausgaard including My Struggle and A Time for Everything. In 2022, the University of Chicago Press will publish some of the writing that developed in this collective under the title The Abyss, Or, Life is Simple – Reading Knausgaard Writing Religion.
“The Religion of Karl Ove Knausgaard,” jointly funded by the Institute for Religion, Culture, and Public Life at Columbia University and IUB, is a multi-year project undertaken by a small group of scholars committed to reading My Struggle and other related works by Knausgaard—as religion. Each of the participants has quite different training and expertise in religious studies, social scientific as well as humanist, ranging from philosophy of art to the sociology of contemporary spirituality.
