Project Inspirations
This activity is designed to playfully challenge the ways we traditionally think about the student communities that can develop in classrooms. Traditional classrooms assume a certain level of hierarchy where even a skilled and well-liked teacher has some authority over their students. This imbalance tends to result in a degree of alienation: students perceive themselves as a unit in opposition to authority, even if the relationship is not negative.
How might this unit respond, however, when the authorities are no longer serving the needs of the whole—eduational or otherwise? When rules are enforced that inhibit growth, curiosity, and learning? What is the role of community for the sake of a rebellion that could be generative, creative, and productive?
